APFEL Web: a web-based application for the graphical visualization of parton distribution functions
We present APFEL Web, a web-based application designed to provide a flexible
user-friendly tool for the graphical visualization of parton distribution
functions (PDFs). In this note we describe the technical design of the APFEL
Web application, motivating the choices and the framework used for the
development of this project. We document the basic usage of APFEL Web and show
how it can be used to provide useful input for a variety of collider
phenomenological studies. Finally we provide some examples showing the output
generated by the application.Comment: Final version, matches published version in JPhysG. Web-application

Categorie, relazioni e metafore nell'Itinerarium mentis in Deum
La metafora come strumento con il quale rinunciare a una teoria della definizione basata sulla sostanza, per preferire un linguaggio piĂč evocativo. Metaphor as a tool by which giving up a substance based definition theory, in order to choose a more evocative language
Metafora e relazione
Il significato della metafora sta nelle nuove relazioni che si instaurano fra i termini, dunque essa fa esplodere il carattere puramente estensionale della classificazione porfiriana

Macchine per analogie. Note sul trattamento automatico dellâanalogia
This article aims to reflect on how analogy is understood and treated by the class of formal information processing methods that deal with analysing written text. In particular, we consider how machines that âunderstandâ analogies can be constructed. For this purpose, exemplifications from Augustine of Hippoâs De Civitate Dei will be used. The initial investigations carried out on this corpus, albeit limited, lead one to reflect on the theoretical and historiographical significance of the automatic treatment of analogy also in formulating or supporting interpretative hypotheses.

Efficacy of somatostatine analogues in survival and quality of life of a frail patient with poorly differentiated biliary neuroendocrine tumour
We describe the case of a 71-year-old woman with poorly differentiated neuroendocrine tumor of third distal biliary duct and osteolytic metastasis. The patient was evaluated as a third stage of Balducciâs criteria for the recognition of frailty. The patient received radiotherapy and octreotide LAR. This treatment allowed a good tumour progression rate (18 months), a good quality of life and a good survival (35 months). The case report describes the role of octreotide in the therapy of neuroendocrine tumours, and underlines the importance of a multidisciplinary management of cancer in frail patients
Giant secreting adrenal myelolipoma in a man: a case report

Abstract

Introduction

Adrenal myelolipoma is a rare, benign neoplasm that is usually asymptomatic, unilateral and nonsecreting. It develops within the adrenal gland and is composed of mature adipose tissue with elements of the hematopoietic series. We describe the case of what is, to the best of our knowledge, one of the largest secreting adrenal myelolipomas reported in the literature.

Case presentation

A 52-year-old Caucasian man of medium build who had had moderate hypertension for three years presented to our hospital. He had no other significant symptoms. His hypertension was pharmacologically treated. He came to our hospital to undergo abdominal ultrasonography during a clinical checkup. The ultrasound scan showed the presence of a voluminous hyperechoic mass interposed between the spleen and the left kidney. It was reported as a myelolipoma of the left kidney on the basis of its structural characteristics and position. Computed tomography confirmed our diagnosis. All preoperative biochemical tests were normal, with the exception of high serum cortisol, which was being overproduced by the lesion and was probably responsible for the patient's hypertension. He underwent successful surgery, and his postoperative course was uneventful. The pathologic examination of the lesion confirmed the diagnosis of adrenal myelolipoma. The patient's blood pressure returned to within the normal range.

Conclusions

The "incidental" discovery of an adrenal mass requires careful diagnostic study to plan adequate therapeutic management. Both of the primary investigations at our disposal, ultrasound and blood tests (adrenal hormones), helped in rendering the diagnosis and allowed us to move toward the most appropriate treatment, taking into account the size of the tumor and its probable hormonal production.</p
Results of the Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative 2015
cheatham2016aInternational audienceOntology matching consists of finding correspondences between semantically related entities of two ontologies. OAEI campaigns aim at comparing ontology matching systems on precisely defined test cases. These test cases can use ontologies of different nature (from simple thesauri to expressive OWL ontologies) and use different modalities, e.g., blind evaluation, open evaluation and consensus. OAEI 2015 offered 8 tracks with 15 test cases followed by 22 participants. Since 2011, the campaign has been using a new evaluation modality which provides more automation to the evaluation. This paper is an overall presentation of the OAEI 2015 campaign
